Keychain guide / tracker, display, or companion

A smart keychain with a screen can be more than a tracker.

Compare smart keychains with screens: trackers, photo displays, remotes, and Oneira's expressive OLED companion with intentional connected help.

What is available now?

  • Working today

Working today means the expressive face has been demonstrated on a real Oneira device.

  • Connected beta

Connected beta features require the Oneira app, internet access, a compatible service, and permissions you approve. They can change and may not work with every service.

The short answer

Choose a tracker to find lost items, an e-ink fob to show a static image, or a remote to control one system. Choose Oneira when the screen itself is an animated character and connected help is optional.

Oneira Dream Big+

A local AI powerhouse in a star.

Small enough to look playful. Built with a dual AI chip, OLED screen, and 1K camera, plus optional connected experiences you control.

Each $80 Founding Unit includes one Oneira device with a dual AI chip, OLED screen, and 1K camera, plus the selected color and included eye set. The 1K camera is included; its final production module and other non-material production details may change before fulfillment. Optional connected services, provider accounts, usage, and third-party fees are separate.

On-device

On-device reactions

Oneira's expressive reactions run on the device, so its face can respond without relying on a cloud request.

Connected beta

Optional connected services

Optional compatible connected services can extend Oneira when you choose. Setup, permissions, internet access, provider terms, and usage costs remain separate. Connected experiences work only with compatible services the owner deliberately configures. Oneira does not connect automatically to every service.

Start with the job

Do you want to find your keys or meet a character?

A location tracker is the correct purchase when recovery is the goal. Oneira does not advertise GPS, cellular location, or a crowdsourced finding network.

Its metal loop is for carrying the companion. The hardware value is the animated face, motion response, deliberate visual capture, and optional connected tool layer.

Screen difference

Color animation changes the category.

E-ink keychains excel at battery-efficient static images and labels. Oneira's OLED screen is built for fluid expression and short active moments instead.

That choice also means buyers should wait for final production runtime validation rather than assume tracker-like battery life.

Carry honestly

The loop does not guarantee every attachment use.

Oneira is palm-sized, but final dimensions, finished weight, ingress rating, impact rating, and battery runtime remain pending production publication.

Use an appropriate accessory and avoid treating a prototype-style carry image as a durability certification.

Smart keychain screen / keep the job focused

The smartest keychain may be the one that does less, more clearly.

A keychain device with a screen can easily become a vague promise: a tracker, a notification device, a camera, a gaming object, and an assistant all at once. A useful comparison starts by choosing the role. Oneira’s screen is an animated face at the center of an expressive companion. Its core motion reactions happen on-device, turning handling and movement into a quick visible response rather than trying to recreate a phone interface in a pocket-sized object.

The screen can also show concise connected output in the Connected beta Sight flow. An owner initiates a single visual frame, chooses notice, read, or help, and receives a short response through an optional connected service. Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. There is no passive background recording. Translation and creator tools are in development. Optional compatible connected tools and services are Connected beta integrations configured intentionally through the app with permissions; service availability can change, and no universal compatibility is promised.

A useful small screen earns attention by making a moment legible, not by reproducing every app from a phone. Decide whether that compact, expressive interaction is enough for your day; if the answer depends on maps, messages, alerts, tracking, or durable storage, evaluate the dedicated category instead.

Side by side

Different products. Different jobs.

Smart keychains cover many categories. Compare the primary job first; a tracker, photo fob, remote, and AI companion are not interchangeable.

Questions, answered

The details that decide a purchase.

Can Oneira find my lost keys?+

No location or crowdsourced finding network is currently advertised. Buy a dedicated tracker if recovery is the job.

Is the screen e-ink?+

No. Oneira uses an OLED screen for animated expressions.

Can it attach to a key loop?+

The hardware has an integrated metal loop. Choose how to carry it based on the final production guidance and the accessory you use.

Does it need a subscription?+

No Oneira subscription is required for core expressions. Connected providers, agents, connected services, hosting, or networks may charge separately.

The honest boundary

Oneira's focused helpers have narrow, visible limits. Broader research, coding, and approved-workspace actions remain in development.

Decision framework

Four ways to judge a screen-equipped keychain

  1. 01

    Function before novelty

Decide whether you really need tracking, time, alerts, photography, control, or an expressive object. Oneira is strongest when you want the last of those: a character that responds physically and communicates a small visual moment, not a universal smart accessory.

  2. 02

    Interface simplicity

A small screen should not hide complicated actions behind an unclear miniature UI. The core interaction should make sense from motion and expression alone; Connected beta Sight adds an intentional mode choice and concise reply rather than a large application layer.

  3. 03

    Privacy around capture

If visual help is a buying factor, compare activation and consent rather than camera labels. Sight needs an owner-triggered frame. Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. It does not record passively, and JML does not store frame or reply in this release.

  4. 04

    Replacement risk

Choose a dedicated tracker, watch, phone, camera, or reader when that job must work reliably and with published support. A character companion is a poor substitute for essential access, safety, navigation, health, or communication needs.

Good fit

Good fit if…

  • You want a compact visible character rather than a secondary notification center.
  • You enjoy an interaction driven by movement and expression, with a clear beginning and end.
  • You see Sight as occasional connected visual assistance and will use its consent rule seriously.

Choose differently

Choose something else if…

  • Choose a tracker if finding lost items is the single job that matters.
  • Choose a smartwatch if glanceable time, alerts, activity, or communication are required.
  • Choose a compact camera if reliable image capture and image storage are central to your plans.
