What is available now?

  • Working today

Working today means the expressive face has been demonstrated on a real Oneira device.

  • Connected beta

Connected beta features require the Oneira app, internet access, a compatible service, and permissions you approve. They can change and may not work with every service.

What you need

Connected beta features need the Oneira app, internet access, a supported service, and permissions you approve. A separate account or fee may also be required.

The short answer

A pet you carry daily should do more than need you. Oneira's virtual-pet play rides on a shipped multi-tool — agents, one-tap actions, automations, smart home, notifications, hardware tools — so the object stays useful after the play ends.

On-device

On-device reactions

Oneira's expressive reactions run on the device, so its face can respond without relying on a cloud request.

Connected beta

Optional connected services

Optional compatible connected services can extend Oneira when you choose. Setup, permissions, internet access, service terms, accounts, usage, and fees remain separate. Connected experiences work only with compatible services the owner deliberately configures. Oneira does not connect automatically to every service.

The drawer problem

Most virtual pets retire in about a month.

A virtual pet's core loop is being cared for, and that loop has a half-life. When the novelty fades, a single-purpose pet has nothing left to offer, which is why so many end up in the drawer beside old fitness bands.

The fix is not a better pet loop. It is picking a pet that shares hardware with tools you would carry anyway, so the affection can fade without the object losing its job.

The checklist

Utility to demand before buying any AI pet.

Shopping in this category, set the pet aside for a minute and audit the tool. The test is what the device does for you on a day you never open the pet at all.

Four utility families cover most of it: things it can do on request, routines it can run for you, information it can surface without a phone unlock, and physical systems it can reach. A pet with none of these is a toy with a battery.

  • Do: AI requests, agents, one-tap actions
  • Run: automations you define
  • Surface: notifications you chose
  • Reach: smart home scenes, real electronics

Oneira's answer

The pet rides on a working multi-tool.

Oneira ships every family on that checklist: AI and agents, one-tap actions and automations, notifications, smart home control including movie mode, and hardware tools on GPIO, I2C, SPI, and UART. Games and virtual-pet companion play sit alongside them as one more shipped family, with expressions that run on-device.

The wiring stays deliberate. The app applies your permissions, requests route only to services you configured with your own accounts, and an agent acts only where granted — the pet never becomes the excuse for an unattended toolset.

Questions, answered

The details that decide a purchase.

What counts as real utility in a virtual pet?+

Capabilities that survive the novelty: tasks on request, automations, notifications, and control of real systems. Judge the device by a day when you skip the pet entirely.

What can Oneira do besides pet play?+

Shipped families include AI and agents, one-tap actions, automations, notifications, smart home with movie mode, creator tools, markets, productivity, and hardware tools on four buses.

Is the utility live out of the box?+

The families ship, but integrations require your own setup: accounts, permissions, and deliberate configuration in the Oneira app. A service name is not an automatic live connection.

Does pet play work without the connected stack?+

The expressive character runs on-device with no app or internet needed. Connected AI features are separate and route through services you choose.

What does it cost to keep?+

$139 per Drop 01 edition, with no Oneira subscription for the core product. Third-party services you connect can carry their own fees.
