Privacy architecture / plain English

Privacy should be part of the feature.

A plain-English map of what Oneira processes on-device, what Sight sends, what the app routes, and what third-party AI or connected tools services can receive.

What is available now?

  • Working today

Working today means the expressive face has been demonstrated on a real Oneira device.

  • Connected beta

Connected beta features require the Oneira app, internet access, a compatible service, and permissions you approve. They can change and may not work with every service.

The short answer

Motion reactions stay on-device. Sight sends one intentional frame for processing. The app routes only to the compatible service you choose. Each layer has a different boundary.

Oneira Dream Big+

A local AI powerhouse in a star.

Small enough to look playful. Built with a dual AI chip, OLED screen, and 1K camera, plus optional connected experiences you control.

Each $80 Founding Unit includes one Oneira device with a dual AI chip, OLED screen, and 1K camera, plus the selected color and included eye set. The 1K camera is included; its final production module and other non-material production details may change before fulfillment. Optional connected services, provider accounts, usage, and third-party fees are separate.

On-device

On-device reactions

Oneira's expressive reactions run on the device, so its face can respond without relying on a cloud request.

Connected beta

Optional connected services

Optional compatible connected services can extend Oneira when you choose. Setup, permissions, internet access, provider terms, and usage costs remain separate. Connected experiences work only with compatible services the owner deliberately configures. Oneira does not connect automatically to every service.

Camera

No background recording.

Oneira Sight begins only after the owner deliberately captures a frame. Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. Sensitive or private material should remain out of frame.

JML does not store the Sight frame or reply in this release. The connected request remains subject to the active service's terms and policies.

App + services

A permission belongs to a destination.

The Oneira app is the connection layer for compatible models, agents, and connected services. Users should be able to understand which destination receives a request and remove that connection later.

Connecting one service should not silently authorize another.

Owner responsibility

Consent and least privilege still matter.

Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. Do not route secrets to untrusted tools or grant an agent broad access simply because the device interface feels friendly.

Review provider privacy terms, retention settings, account security, and activity logs before connecting a service.

Privacy architecture / understand the path

Privacy is clearer when each layer has a boundary.

Oneira's Working today motion-reactive face is on-device behavior. It does not need a Sight request to react, which gives the core companion experience a simple boundary: movement produces an expression without turning the moment into a camera interaction. Privacy evaluation begins by recognizing that not every feature shares the same data path.

Sight is the connected layer and is labeled Connected beta. An owner deliberately captures one frame; an optional connected service returns a short notice, read, or help response. Sight does not record in the background. Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. JML does not store the Sight frame or reply in this release, while connected processing remains governed by the active service's controls and an AI response may still be inaccurate.

Other connected software deserves a separate review rather than an automatic extension of the Sight boundary. Translation and creator assistance are In development. Optional compatible connected tools and services are Connected beta integrations that require intentional app setup; assess their permissions, data handling, terms, availability, and reliability independently. A compact device does not reduce the need to understand the connected boundary or who has agreed to it.

Decision framework

Questions, answered

The details that decide a purchase.

Does Oneira record video in the background?+

No. The current Sight experience uses one owner-triggered frame, not background video recording.

Does JML keep my Sight frame?+

JML does not store the frame or reply in this release. A connected provider still processes the request under its own policy.

Can connected tools see every capture?+

Not by default. A tool receives only what the configured app workflow and permissions route to it. Review every connection carefully.

Where is the legal privacy policy?+

The full legal policy is available at oneira.cam/privacy. This guide explains the product architecture in plain English.

The honest boundary

Oneira's focused helpers have narrow, visible limits. Broader research, coding, and approved-workspace actions remain in development.

Four privacy questions before a connected request

  1. 01

Which layer am I using right now?

Motion-reactive expression is on-device Working today behavior. Sight is a Connected beta visual request that uses an optional connected service for one deliberate frame. Knowing which layer you are in prevents the false idea that all interaction is either completely local or continuously cloud-connected.

  2. 02

Has everyone present agreed to the capture?

Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. This requirement applies even when the intended subject seems harmless. Ask first, respect a refusal, and avoid capturing people, private spaces, or sensitive material when consent is incomplete or uncertain.

  3. 03

What happens after I choose one frame?

Sight does not record in the background. A deliberate frame uses an optional connected service for a short response. JML does not store the frame or reply in this release, but connected processing remains subject to the active service's data controls.

  4. 04

Am I assuming another connected tool inherits Sight's policy?

Do not assume that every optional compatible connected tool or service has the same boundary as Sight. Each Connected beta service needs its own review for compatibility, authentication, permissions, retention, terms, availability, and reliability before use.

Good fit

Good fit if…

  • You prefer an owner-started camera interaction with no background Sight recording.
  • You are ready to follow a clear rule: Everyone present must agree before an owner-triggered Sight capture. You also keep sensitive content out of frame.
  • You want a product that separates on-device expression from a connected beta data path in plain language.

Choose differently

Choose something else if…

  • Choose a fully offline product if you do not want any frame processed through a connected service.
  • Choose no camera feature in situations where consent cannot be established or privacy risk is too high.
  • Choose a fixed-policy service if a particular external tool or data workflow is necessary to your use.
